KDC commended for active community programmes

KAPIT: Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development (KKLW) gave Kapit District Council (KDC) a pat on the back for its initiative to organise the Local Agenda 21 and Community Development for the community in the rural areas that also saw the involvement of the various government agencies.

“This is one of the government’s National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) programmes by organising a joint and smart partnership projects using the assets of the various government agencies for the benefit of the people,” Nanta said while officiating at the third Local Agenda 21 and Community Development programmes held at Rumah Melayu anak Angkup at Nanga Latong Sungai Tekalit, a tributary of Katibas river recently.

He was happy to note that the council had carried out the LA 21 and community development programme that gave focus on health and environmental awareness in the rural areas involving especially the Village Security and Development Committees (JKKKs) that are also under KKLW as the salary of the village chieftains are paid by the ministry.

On development, Nanta told that the government strategy now gave focus on connectivity to connect the rural areas through R1 modified road standard, Civic Action Programme (JiwaMurni), RTP and to upgrade the logging company roads.

“We want more connectivity to bring faster road development through R1 modified road standard, Civic Action Programme (JiwaMurni), RTP and to upgrade the logging company roads for the people in the rural areas as the construction of the standard road takes time,” stressed Nanta.

At the function Nanta presented My-Kid card to several children in Sungai Tekalit areas.

He also pledged to provide the allocation for the replacement of the dilapidated roofing of the 18-door  RumahMelayu.

This was the third Local Agenda 21 and Community Development organised by the council so far this year. The first such programme was held at RumahAnsie at Nanga Sepajie at Mujong in late March while the second programme was at Uma Kelab at Bakun Resettlement Scheme, Sungai Asap in mid May this year.

The council has proposed to organise six such programmes that involve all the six state assembly seats in Kapit division. The remaining constituencies that are yet to be covered include Pelagus, Bukit Goram and Belaga.

Among the activities slotted together to coincide with the LA 21 and Community Development Programme include preventive fogging, talk by seven government agencies namely the host Kapit District Council, Natural Resources Environmental Board Sibu, BOMA Song, Song District Office, Police Department Song, Health Department and National Registration Department Song, fire fighting demonstration, gotong-royong to clean the longhouse surrounding, tree planting, children colouring contest and telematch.
