KOTA SAMARAHAN: With a week two business groups – Aiman and MD Motors – opened business in high profile here and both by Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg.

“One opened a huge mall and the another a motor showroom. All go to show that Kota Samarahan is a rising star for business and a place where people not just come to study and reside in but also to do business and making money.

“We in the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) cannot but be pleased,” commented MPKS chairman Dato Peter Minos.

“What makes Kota Samarahan an attraction for businessmen? First is the rising population due initially to the setting up of big universities like Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and overnment offices and medical centres.

This was followed by groups looking to servicing the residents and the agencies. And of course, the new huge army and airforce camps in the periphery help boost the number and local consumption demand. One big thing begets another,” he pointed out.

He also said that now with the Batang Sadong Bridge already completed and used and the Samarahan bridge coming up by next year, it is expected that business would get a boost in Kota Samarahan.

“This will in turn spur more housing and thus more population and more businesses. The cycle goes on. It is natural and unstoppable.

“I see Kota Samarahan in the next 10 years becoming very busy due to rising population and thus growing businesses. For sure is the setting up of more medical-related centres as already there is the Heart Centre, Unimas Medical Centre and the talk of a cancer treatment centre,” said Minos.

He said more teaching or training centres being set up as Infra (rural development centre) was now under construction apart from existing big vocational school and National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN).

“Let us say Kota Samarahan is becoming more and more an intellectual-knowledge hub. We in MPKS will and must work harder in solving the traffic problem with the Public Works Department and other agencies and in making life more congenial and happier in Kota Samarahan. That is our job at the background apart from ensuring that the place is always clean and green and safe together with the police. These are simply very basic things that we must do.

“We are definitely encouraged by the Chief Minister’s words and advice that “the policy is to go for business-friendly attitude and reduce unnecessary bureaucracy and red tape” as stated in the souvenir programme of MD Motors showroom opening.

“Agencies like MPKS do well to take heed in order for a place like Kota Samarahan to rise and go up,” said Minos.
