KUCHING: The Tabika KEMAS here in Kampung Kudei Baru has been reconstructed after it was severely affected by the floods in 2016.

The project was undertaken by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia, its subsidiary Akademi Binaan Malaysia (Sarawak), Covestro, and United Panel-System Malaysia and was reconstructed using the Industrialised Building System (IBS) method.

A key handover ceremony was held at its premises which was attended by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Datuk Abang Openg here on Tuesday.

Minister of Works Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who was also present, said that the reconstruction of the tabika allows the children in the area to continue on with their education in a safe and comfortable environment.

“The construction of the tabika ensures that the hot air from outside doesn’t enter the building which will make it airy and comfortable for the students; creating an environment that is conducive for the students.

“In addition to that, I was also made to understand that this tabika is equipped with a solar system, which is renewable energy, and makes the building environmentally friendly,” said Fadillah, who is also the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Petra Jaya as well as its incumbent.

Also present during the event was Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai.
