Kuching City Street Parade attracts 46 contingents

KUCHING: 46 contingents from various public agencies and departments as well as non-governmental organisations, schools and institutions last night took part in the Kuching City Street Parade to commemorate the 29th year of Kuching as a city.

The contingents competed in different five different categories, namely, Open Category, Junior Category, Marching Band Category, Bicycle Category and Motorbike Category.

Prizes totalling RM28,000 were offered at this year’s celebration. The winners will, however, be announced at a later date.

The contingents started the parade at 8.30pm from Travillion Commercial Centre to Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman in Padungan.

They halted in front of the grandstand located in front of Hilton Hotel here and performed before continuing the parade which ended at Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg in the city centre.

Present during the celebration were Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Datin Amar Dato Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Dato’ Sri Nancy Shukri, Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian and his wife, Datin Enn Ong and Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Talip Zulpilip.
