KUCHING: Kuching and Mulu have topped the list as the most sought after destinations in the state for domestic travellers at the recent MATTA Fair at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) which was held over the weekend. These were followed by Batang Ai, Bario and Ba’Kelalan, Sibu for its food and Mukah for its cultural experience.

The fair also drew a large crowd on its final day yesterday with many asking for entrance tickets to the Rainforest World Music Festival while others showed interest in shopping for ethnic products and sightseeing-based attractions.

Visiting Sarawak Cul tural Village, Serikin border market, Niah National Park as well as the Bidayuh longhouse are among other popular demands. There were a number of honeymoon couples looking for nature attractions, particularly enquiring for the the Batang Ai Honeymoon packages along with Bako National Park and Mulu National Park as well.

MATTA Fair seemed to be an eye-opener for many companies to enhance their product, offering with proper booking facilities in future to cater to the specific demand of the West Malaysian market. Sales Executive from Jaunt Asia, Syahidah Izzah said that they will combine two of their best services which are ticketing and tours, offering customers attractive packages with ‘best offer’ airline tickets, particularly for its Muslim tours.

The Kuching based tour company made its inaugural appearance at the MATTA Fair. Amogha Tours and Travel, with support from Sarawak Tourism Board, showcased its Virtual Reality Teaser Tour of Sarawak in an attempt to increase visibility and interest of potential customers, resulting in an increase in sales as compared to last year. Its Executive Director, Ashweein Narayanan said their sales at a 68.9 percent increase as compared to the previous MATTA fair.

“This goes without saying that having digital marketing initiatives such as Virtual Reality tours as marketing tools is very effective and brings the scalability of the tourism sector to new levels of profitability and visibility,” Ashweein said. He expressed his wish to bring the state’s tourism industry to new horizons with the Chief Minister’s vision to digitalise all industries.

Digital marketing creates a link between customer’s immersion of experience and the technological wonders and progress of economies and businesses, and this is very much proven at MATTA Fair, he continued.

The fair’s Domestic Hall 5 was made lively with the excitement as Sarawak Pavilion demonstrated various cultural related activities such as dance performance, blowpipe games, live Sape music as well as traditional snacks. Many visitors took pictures with the traditional dancers and musician in Sarawak traditional costume.
