SARIKEI: A labourer was arrested by police for allegedly raping his daughter since July this year.

State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief, SAC Dato’ Dev Kumar Sree Shunmugam said the 38-year-old suspect was picked up at Sarikei Hospital yesterday afternoon.

He said the incident came to light when the 15-year-old girl complained of stomach pain to a warden at her school.

“The victim was then sent to Sarikei Hospital for a medical check-up and placed at the emergency ward around 12.40pm,” he said.

The suspect, who was informed by a school teacher that his daughter had been hospitalised, rushed to the hospital to check her condition.

However, shortly after checking his daughter’s condition, the suspect was detained by police and taken to a police station for questioning.

Dev Kumar said the suspect had been remanded for five days to facilitate investigation.
