LIMBANG: A total of RM6.8 million has been distributed as compensation to recipients for the Limbang River Bridge Project, Sungai Bunut 2 Bridge and Limbang Connection Road, Limbang Town 132 / 33kV Substation and Lawas Town project (Long Tuma) 275 / 33kV Lawas Substation.

The compensations in the form of cheques were presented by Deputy Chief Minister who is also Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development and Second Minister of Urban Development and Natural Resources, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan in a special ceremony held at Purnama Hotel Limbang, here, yesterday.

In his speech Tengah urged all the recipients of land compensation cheques from the government to spend wisely the money to improve the economy of their own and families. In fact, infrastructure facilities that are being built near their land area should be fully utilised as the facilities are built not only to provide convenience but increase the value of their land.

“The compensation cheque presentation ceremony which is held today proves that every piece of land used by the government will be compensated. Payment of land compensation proves that the government does not confiscate land as claimed by certain parties. The government pays fair and reasonable compensations to the landowners in accordance with Article 13 of the Federal Constitution, “ he added.

On another development of Limbang River 2 Bridge project, he pointed out that this route will be part of the Pan Borneo Highway route that will open more opportunities through the efficient and easy communication network system for the mobility of the people as well as to boost local economy. Meanwhile the substation project in Limbang and Lawas, is a government effort to connect Limbang and Lawas into a network of electricity supply to the state grid, he explained.

So far the two districts depend on the local grid where the electricity supply is powered by small power and mini hydro. For the Limbang district, electricity supply is still dependent on power generation which uses fossil fuels which are more expensive.
