KUCHING: Discussion between AirAsia and the state government on having a low-cost carrier terminal (LCCT) in Kuching is still going on, said Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday.
He said the state has no problem to have the LCCT built here as long as AirAsia agreed on the terms.
“It is a win-win situation between AirAsia and Sarawak as the Group CEO AirAsia Berhad Malaysia, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes wants Kuching to be the hub and he has his plans.
“For us, we want to make sure that everybody will benefit from this project- more tourists are coming, more top spots and more benefits to the hawkers, hotels, craftsmen and others,” he said at a press conference launching the Sarawak Dialogue at Riverside Majestic Hotel here.
Meanwhile, according to Tony, his focus now is to deliver more routes to Sarawak.
“We are providing the Kuching-Pontinak route to facilitate the Pontianak’s residents who desperately need a low-cost hospital as their private hospital is just too expensive.
“That is why we really hope that we can establish the LCCT in Kuching and we can really roll a number of routes and connectivity to Sarawak,” he pointed out, adding by having the LCCT, it will enable AirAsia to reduce its fare.
Speaking on the plan for the LCCT, Tony said he planned to build the LCCT with the concept of renewal energy.
