KUCHING: In embracing the spirit of Ramadan, the Leadership Institute of Sarawak Civil Service shared the blessings of the month of Ramadan by hosting the children and their wardens from a local children’s home at a ‘buka puasa’ dinner at Imperial Hotel Kuching here, on Wednesday, a press release stated yesterday.

The event was graced by State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi bin Abdul Ghani, along with his wife. Morshidi is the Chairman of the Leadership Institute Board of Directors.

Leadership Institute chief executive officer Shebli Hairani said they were delighted to have hosted this year’s breaking-of-fast with the children.

“We are also grateful to the State Secretary for making time at this heart-warming occasion which is very much a special moment for these children,” he said.

The welfare institution, whose name is unable to be disclosed, has over 57 children under its care, aged between four year to 17 years old. The centre is under the purview of the State Welfare Department.

The Berbuka Puasa outreach activity is an annual programme by the Leadership Institute and constitutes one of the many corporate social responsibility initiatives by the State Civil Service training institute.

Among those present at the dinner were the State Attorney General Talat Mahmood Abdul Rashi, Deputy State Secretaries Datu Haji Ismawi Ismuni, Datu Jaul Samion, Datu Dr. Sabariah Putit, Director of State Planning Unit, Datu Haji Mohamad Abu Bakar bin Marzuki, the statement said.

The dinner also saw a gathering of family members of staff of the Institute. A total of 240 people attended the dinner, which included staff members of Leadership Institute who came with their family members.

The Leadership Institute is a training centre for the civil service in Sarawak. The organisation also assists various government departments and agencies in their recruitment drives and also conducts assessment for career progression. Among the training programmes offered by the institute are the High-Performing Leadership programme, the Competency for Career Development programme, the Support Skills Development programme and the latest bite-size programmes.

The Institute was officially launched on 9 December last year during the State Civil Service Day celebration.
