KUCHING: Sarawak should not only rely on the current crop of athletes to representative the state in the coming Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) and Paralympic 2018. Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development, Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said the state athletes participating in Sukan Sarawak (SukSar) 2017 should be given the exposure to represent the state in Sukma 2018.

“We must be well prepared in order to continue the State’s glory which emerged champion in the Sukma 2016 and also Paralympic.

“The organisation of SukSar 2017 is the best strategy for us to identify new talents in ensuring that the State can achieve its objective which is a sport powerhouse,” said Fatimah after the medal presentation ceremony of SukSar2017 at Stadium Sarawak near here, yesterday.

She also expressed her gratitude towards parents for continuously supporting their children competing in SukSar 2017.

“Their sacrifices towards their children are very much appreciated and it also helps to enable their children to excel in areas they are interested in,” said Fatimah.
