KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) Chairman, Lo Khere Chiang expressed delight that his council is among those rated as ‘good’ by the Attorney General’s (CG’s) report.
The others rated as good too are Local Government Ministry; Sarawak Rivers Board; Land Consolidation and Development Authority; Bau District Council; Youth, Sports and Solidarity Ministry; Welfare Department and Kota Samarahan Municipal Council.
“ I am of course proud that MPP is among one of those agencies being rated ‘good’. Looking back over the years, MPP is fortunate because we have a good team of officers as well as a good team of councillors. Our objectives have always been positive and practical, always with the interest of the council first and individuals, last.
“I have nominated my team of councillors to head various standing committees, not based on party lines but based on capabilities of the individuals. I believe I have picked the best men for the job. Effectiveness and efficiency prevail and all councillors are poised to do their best and are conscientious about their job. This is the part I find challenging and at the same time, rewarding. I encourage debates in our meetings and uphold consensus opinions,” he added.
Lo said he had always practised transparency in the award of tenders. He added that as much as possible, he tried to adhere and award to the lowest tenderer and consistently weed out poor performing contractors by grading them. In so doing and over time we have a pool of disciplined contractors who will participate in our tenders. The poor
ones get terminated and heavily penalised.Human resource, he stressed, is still the most important asset in any organisation.
“How we fare depends on how knowledgeable, credible and responsible is our team of officers as well as our councillors. I pride myself that we have both in MPP and the challenges ahead is to continue to motivate my team and to encourage every individual to have this burning desire to improve, advance and to excel,” he pointed out.
