KAPIT: Member of Parliament for Hulu Rajang, Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong officiated at the launching of the Women Bureau of the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of Rumah Ensong, Batu Bai at Sungai Bain, a tributary of the Baleh River to coincide with the ‘Leaders Meet The People’ session at the longhouse, recently.

In his speech Ugak said his priority as their elected representative is to focus on basic infrastructure and amenity development for their benefit.

“To achieve this we have the on ongoing road construction project such as the 74KM Jalan Mujong to Nanga Antawau in Ulu Baleh.

The road is scheduled to be completed by 2019. Upon completion the people in Baleh will be able to drive right up to their doorstep,” he said.
Ugak also pointed out that once the road is completed then pipe water and electricity supplies will follow.

On rural electricity supply, Ugak hoped that more ‘solar system electricity supply’ will be implemented in remote longhouses in the Baleh constituency.

“The government invested heavily on the Solar System so that people remote longhouses can also enjoy round the clock electricity supply,” said Ugak.

He lauded Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia (SKM) Negeri Sarawak for helping in rural economic programme and appealed to SKM to reach out to the rural longhouses to help the residents to form co-operatives to venture into business.

Ugak believed that the setting up of co-operatives involving locals could help to generate income through various economic activities and also to groom entrepreneurs.

Upon his arrival, Ugak officiated at SKM investment on ‘Ikan Empurau Breeding Scheme’ at Rumah Ensong.

He also advised the people to take up co-operative seriously to manage the Ikan Empurau scheme because there is great potential to generate income.

He added that through the co-operative the fish can be marketed to Kuala Lumpur or overseas.

At the function Ugak presented RM5,000 grant to JKKK of Rumah Ensong and another RM5,000 to the Women Bureau (Biro Wanita) of JKKK Rumah Ensong.
