KUCHING: A sum of RM42,000 wasyesterday sponsored by ENE (East Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Magnum 4D) to Kuching Festival Fair.
The sponsorship was handed over by Oswald Lai Foo Wah, Assistant Manager, Operations, Magnum 4D Berhad to Kuching City South Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato James Chan Khay Syn yesterday.
This year, 2018, is the 24th consecutive year ENE (East Malaysia) Sdn Bhd. (Magnum 4D) has supported the Kuching Festival Fair.
Mayor Chan thanked Magnum 4D for its sponsorship of the Kuching Festival Food Fair for the past 24 years.
“Although Magnum is a gambling group, we look at them playing their part and doing this (sponsorship) more as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for the people ,” Chan said.
“And we are doing the Food Fair also for the people. This year, the sponsorship is RM42,000, although last year it was RM50,000. However that is fine; it is the sponsorship that counts. To me it doesn’t really matter,” the Mayor said.
He said the money will go towards the food aspects of Kuching Food Festival. “We will use this for a healthy practice such as the caps and the aprons as members of each stall have to wear their aprons,” he said.
“All these sponsorships will be put to good use,” he assured.
“Kuching Food Fair Festival is has always been done for their benefits of the people, the tourists and visitors,” he said.
Lai said the sponsorship to the event is a way for Magnum to contribute to the people of Sarawak.
“Especially this year, since MBKS wants to promote environment friendly so we want to take the opportunity to support MBKS in promoting and encouraging friendly environment and to educate the people,” he said.
Chan said this year, the food operators had been told that there would be no usage of styrofoam food containers.
“So we want to discourage all the 240 odd foodstalls from using styrofoams. The people are also encouraged to bring their own containers.
“We would like to urge the people, the public when they come to patronise the food stalls to help clean up their own table after eating.
“So we want to use this Food Fair to create that kind of awareness. We want to get people to adapt to good habit, ” he said.
Kuching Festival Fair especially the Food Fair has always been the well-known annual attraction of the food lovers from within Kuching City and West Malaysia.
The Kuching Festival Fair 2018 will be held at the compound of Dewan Masyarakat from 27 July to 19 August starting from 6:pm to 11:pm nightly.
Councillor Mohamad Taufik Abdul Ghani, organising chairman of Kuching Festival Fair 2018 hoped the number of visitors to the Food fair this year will reach one million. He said last year, it had a record of more than 900,000 local patrons and tourists visiting the Fair.
The Fair consists of 287 food stalls that serve beverages, local and international delicacies and 146 trade stalls.
During the duration of the Fair, various associations will also take turn to serve their own unique Chinese Home Cook delicacies to the visitors
From 1 to 4 August, there will be International Night whereby cultural performance teams from Zhangjiang, Zhengjiang and Kunming, China and Guro, South Korea will be staged.
