SIBU: Magnum Group yesterday brought early Chinese New Year (CNY) cheers to the residents of three charitable organisations here. The three organisations were the Sibu Benevolent Society, Sibu Kidney Foundation and Sibu Blind Centre.

The residents received ang pow (red envelopes containing cash) and foodstuffs from Magnum Group under Magnum’s Welfare Home Outreach programme. Magnum Account Executive, Gerald Ong presented the items to the recipients.

Under the Welfare Home Outreach programme which began in 1985, MagnumCares will distribute CNY ang pow and carry out other socially responsible activities at charity and welfare homes across the country. This year, MagnumCares will be visiting 227 charity and welfare homes, starting from Jan 22 to distribute CNY ang pow to the residents.

This year, it is expected to give away a total value of RM701,300 in ang pow as well as other festive gifts to more than 13,700 people from these undeserved communities nationwide.

According to the Head of Magnum Group CSR, Beh Swan Swan, apart from the distribution of ang pow and CNY gifts, MagnumCares also undertakes refurbishments such as fixing, repairing and repainting work in order to enhance the living condition of homes in need.

Faulty essential items will also be replaced to ensure the comfort of the residents of the homes. Beh added: “One of the best ways to receive prosperity and auspiciousness for the New Year is to first give joy and happiness to others, especially to those at the charity and welfare homes.

It has been a long tradition of the company to give not only material joy during this festive season, but to also provide our time to bring happiness through small gestures carried out by our own colleagues.”
