MIRI: The Sarawak Dayak Educators Association (SDEA) Miri zone was launched by Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi at a leading restaurant here, recently.

“Parents and teachers should share their opinion and information regarding the current education system, especially on the increasing importance of technical vocational education and training (TVET).

“They should also find ways to increase student’s academic and co-curricular performances,” said Majang at the launch.

He said this was pivotal in avoiding the community, especially the parents, from doubting the skills of those graduating from vocational colleges and urge the community to continue putting their trust and confidence in vocational college to produce quality human capital.

Majang also urged PTAs to find efficient and effective formulas to produce students who could cope with change and be prepared for the work environment of the future.

“To produce a quality generation we should compile steps wisely and involved all in the community to uphold our education system.

“Thus, the government has taken a proactive effort in giving out various types of educational loans and improving the basic infrastructure of rural schools with the creation of a new ministry – ministry of education, science and technological research – to focus on the educational system in the state.

“What is important is that we should also take heed that our children acquire knowledge and skills accordingly,” Majang said.

He added that parents ought to be strict in educating their children, at the same time keep a good eye on the company they mix with.

“We cannot place the responsibility of educating our children solely on teachers. No doubt teachers are responsible for their education but at home parents are the teachers,” he stressed.

Majang also praised SDEA which by now has some 700 teachers from the various nearby districts and committed towards

their social responsibility, especially in promoting educational agendas among the dayak community.
