KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is stepping up its promotions this year in preparation for the Visit Malaysia 2020, as the Official Partner Country of ITB Berlin 2019, in the CityCube Berlin from March 6 to 10.

Tourism Malaysia, in a statement today, said as the official partner country, Malaysia would organise the opening ceremony on March 5 with a cultural performance ‘Colours of Malaysia’ by Istana Budaya, Malaysia’s main venue for all types of theatre performances.

“The Malaysia Pavilion at Hall 26A, Stand 117, will display architectural forms adapted from ancient Terengganu architecture.

“Besides being the venue for networking and meetings, it would also hold regular cultural performances throughout the exhibition,” it said.

Delicious Malaysian cuisine, renowned for its generous use of medicinal herbs and spices, would also be made available to the public to sample.

Malaysia’s presence at the ITB would see a big delegation comprising state tourism boards, tour operators, tourism product owners, hoteliers, airline operators, tourism service providers and more. A total of 136 participants representing 83 organisations from Malaysia would be taking part.

The delegation would be led by the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi and accompanied by Motac deputy secretary general (Tourism) Haslina Abdul Hamid and Tourism Malaysia director general Musa Yusof.

The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council would also be promoting Malaysia as an affordable and quality medical tourism destination while the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents would promote Malaysia as a bird-watching paradise and highlight the country’s unique cultural aspects.

“Malaysia is targeting to welcome 30 million tourists from around the world and reap a RM100 billion tourism revenue. The German market is a potentially strong market for Malaysia to pursue,” it said.

In 2018, Malaysia received 128,895 German tourists and targeted to welcome 147,000 tourists from Germany this year. – Bernama
