Man charged with retaining stolen meters

MIRI: A 40 year-old man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday with eight counts of receiving stolen goods and illegally handling stolen electrical meters belonging to Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB).

However, the accused, Sim Lei Yen, pleaded not guilty to the charges framed under Section 411 of the Penal Code which provide for up to five years’ jail or a fine or both upon conviction.

Sim is accused of dishonestly retaining 10 units of stolen electrical meters belonging to eight different owners on August 27 and 28. Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa released Sim on a bail of RM500 with two local sureties for every charge and fixed October 3, 2018 for further mention.
