Firefighters from Lopeng Fire Station, Miri about to carry Ngau’s remains from the drain.

KUCHING: Following a distress called received by Lopeng Fire Station, Miri at 8.52 am yesterday relating to an incident at a sewage treatmenta plant near Vista Perdana, Miri, Lopeng Fire Station immeidately dispatched 10 firefighters in three vehicles led by the fire station’s chief Terry Robson to the location.

Upon arrival at the incident scene the firefighters discovered that a piece of metal pipe measuring 36” in diameter and 40 feet long placed near a drain had suddenly rolled and fell on a Kayan man identified as Ngau Wan Uyo, 57, who died on the spot.

An excavator from a company nearby was used to lift the huge pipe before the deceased was carried away and handed over to the police for their further action.

The operation concluded at 11.20 am.
