MIRI: A local man was detained by police at Miri Airport on Thursday morning for drug possession.

Miri Police chief, ACP Khoo Leng Huat said the 33-year-old man was detained at the entrance of the airport by a police team from Miri Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) at 9.45am.

“During the inspection on the suspect’s luggage, the police found two plastic packets containing drug in powder form, believed to be ecstasy, weighing about 38 grammes and worth RM500,” he said in a statement here, yesterday.

Khoo said the suspect and the seized items were later brought to the Narcotics office for further action.

He said the suspect was tested positive for amphetamine and the case was being investigated under Section 39 (A) (2) and 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952.
