SIBU: Second Finance Minister and Bawang Assan Assemblyman, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh   has received many requests from the people to build parking lots at longhouses in his constituency.

He pointed out that the Rural Transformation Project (RTP)  implemented by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government had successfully changed the rural landscape in the state including  areas in Bawang Assan.

“Due to the good roads   and improvement in the standard of living,  the longhouse folks are able to buy cars now. Hence, the requests for parking lots at the longhouses,” he told reporters on Monday after visiting the site  of the  parking lot at Rumah Unjah Besh, Sungai Melanggan and viewing the progress of the upgrading work on Rumah Melina Gerasi Road, Sungai Apong and  Rumah Joseph Jarrau Road, Tanjung Bekakap.

All three projects, according to the Minister,  cost  RM545,763.

Wong, who is also the United People’s Party (UPP) president, added that  a 7km road had also been built to connect the longhouses in Sungai Melanggan, Sungai Apong and Tanjung Bekakap.

Three bridges including a concrete bridge costing more than RM1million had  been built, too, to complement the existing road network.  UPP Sibu Community Service Board’s deputy chairman, Andrew Shilling, Temenggong Stanley Geramong and Penghulu Jeffery Sut were among those present at the press conference.
