KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Masing (pic) agrees with Tun Mahathir that the Pan Borneo Highway should bypass Brunei.

“The route should originate from Marudi to Long Terawan, then through Mulu National park along the border with Brunei, straight to Hulu Sg Limbang and Hulu Sg Trusan, and finally reaches Lawas before it connects the border with Sabah.

“This route will open up the upper reaches of Sg Limbang and Sg Trusan in Lawas. The highway will truly benefit the people residing in the interior of Sarawak’s northern region. The distance covers about 250km with an estimated cost of RM3.5 billion,” he added.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir who went to Brunei for a working visit recently, said there is a route to enter into Brunei, but we want to avoid (entering Brunei), so we can just go straight.

He added that such a route would make travelling difficult as the roads are complicated.
