KUCHING: The State Veterinary Services Department (JPVS) will be holding a mass vaccination programme at three locations on 27 January from 9.00am to 2.00pm. The locations are Taman Malihah Multipurpose Hall, KPCA People’s Centre in Kenyalang Park and Kampung Atas Multipurpose Hall in Singai, Bau.

Pet owners are requested to bring over their pets to get them vaccinated to prevent the spread of rabies especially towards the owners. On the recent development, there has been an increase of number of animal bites especially from pets.

The Director of JPVS, Dr Adrian Susin Ambud revealed that these bites were not necessarily caused by animals affected by rabies. He called upon pet owners to get their pets vaccinated and neutered to prevent the spread of rabies to their offsprings. “Currently we are removing strays in Kuching and also mass vaccination of dogs.

We should be able to prevent the spread. In regards to the strays, they will be put to sleep if they are found in infected areas,” said Adrian. Meanwhile, Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) and Kuching South City Council (MBKS) have yet to respond to the issue.
