Ministry landslide experts to conduct study on Canada Hill

MIRI: The Ministry of Public Works will send their experts to Miri soon to conduct a study on the landslide problem at Canada Hill. Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the recurring landslide  at Canada Hill here required a detailed study to find the best solution to address the problem.

“We hope that from the study, we will be able to take appropriate steps in the future to avoid the same recurring problem. “It is understood that the land movement in the area is active and dangerous,” he told reporters dur ing a survey of the landslide site at Kampung Lereng Bukit.

He said the residents of six houses near the landslide area were being temporary transferred to a safer place – the village multipurpose hall. As of yesterday, 20 affected villagers were still at the evacuation centre while the rest had moved to other places.
Lee, who was accompanied by representatives from various government agencies involved, also made a survey of the other affected areas, including Kampung Haji Wahed. Earlier, he had attended meetings with the various agencies on the landslide issue as well as drainage and flood problems.
