MIRI: The mystery of missing a senior citizen was revealed with the discovery of a corpse in a drain in the residential area of ​​Hilltop Park here yesterday morning.

The body of Jong Ah Choi, 77, was found lying in the drain at a distance of about 300 metres from his house.

It is learned that the victim often walked around the residential area and suffered from Parkinson’s disease. He was realised missing by his family members since July 28, after he went out that day and did not return home.

Following the discovery of the dead body, a team of firefighters was called to help lift the victim’s body from a two-metre deep drain.

Miri Zone Fire and Rescue Department Head, Law Poh Kiong said he received a call at 10.18am before a team from Miri Central Fire and Rescue Station was directed to the scene.

“The rescue team arrived at the scene to help the police pick up and remove the dead body from the drains,” he said.

The body was then handed over to the police for further action before the special service operation ended at 11.30am, he pointed out yesterday.
