MIRI: Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained two foreign fishing boats from Vietnam and seized the fish weighing five tons worth RM60,000 in the waters of on Tuesday.

MMEA Maritime Commander, Mohamad Hambali said, apart from the vessels, the enforcement personnel also detained 30 Vietnamese nationals aged 19 to 46 years to help the investigation.

In a statement, here, yesterday he said, the assessment found that 10 crew members of the boat did not have valid identification documents.

The case is being investigated under the Fisheries Act 1985.

Upon conviction, the boats could be confiscated, the skipper could be fined up to RM1 million while the crew members could be fined up to RM500,000 each.
