KUCHING: The Dyslexia Association of Sarawak is seeking donations for its new building which costs about RM7 million. 1.5 acres of land, located in Desa Wira, Batu Kawa, have been granted to the association by the state government.

According to Minister of Welfare, Community Well-Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, the association has organised various activities and programmes to raise funds for the new building. “However, it still has not achieved its target.

“I fully support the plan for a new building. The association is currently located at an old government bungalow.

The new building will be used as a rehabilitation and intervention centre for children or adults who have dyslexia.

“It will also be an accommodation centre for those who come from far away places. Therefore, we have to look at the future needs of these special people,” said Fatimah when flagging off the Dyslexia Purple Run at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Building here yesterday.

It is learnt that the association has so far raised more than RM500,000 for the new building. The association will be holding a Charity Food and Fair on November 25, 2018 at MBKS. More than 500 people joined the Dyslexia Purple Run yesterday.

Before the run, there was a dynamic warming up session by Vincent Mallang of Borneonwolves. Also present were the president of Dyslexia Association of Sarawak, Dr Ong Puay Hoon and patron of Dyslexia Association of Sarawak, Datin Hajjah Azerina Moh Arip.
