KUCHING: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has revoked family entertainment licences of four family entertainment centres operating under its jurisdiction yesterday.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference here, MPP Chairman, Lo Khere Chiang said a meeting was held and the council had decided to revoke the licences from the four operators after Padawan District Police chief, Supt Aidil Bolhassan highlighted that the four centres were found involved in illegal gambling activities.

He said the licences issued to the operators were only meant for family entertainment purposes and not for illegal gambling.

“We (MPP) are certainly against illegal gambling. I personally detest these sorts of outlets,” he said.

Calling the move by Aidil a positive one, Lo said the police should continue carrying out raids on premises suspected to be involved in illegal gambling under MPP’s jurisdiction and he would fully cooperate with them.

“If any shops in Padawan area are raided by the police because of their involvement in illegal gambling activities, I will personally see that their business licences be revoked immediately and blacklisted. I commend the police for doing their job well,” he said.
