MUKAH: About 3,000 people from all walks of life thronged Mukah Stadium to witness Mukah Division Sarawak Independence Day Celebration yesterday morning.

The programme kicked off with the distribution of Sarawak flags to all those present at the stadium entrance.

The celebration then properly commenced with a mass aerobic exercise session led by local fitness instructor, Christina Bera. Guest of honour, Mukah Division Deputy Resident, Abdul Halim Abdullah who sat at the front row near the grandstand of the stadium, was seen enjoying the 30-minute exercise session featuring both contemporary and modern songs.

Also seen at the auspicious occasion were Mukah District Officer, Shafrie Saili, Temenggong Haji Hendi Suhai, heads of department and local community leaders.

In his brief speech at the event dubbed 722 Sarawak Independence Day, he revealed the history of Sarawak and hoped that the locals, especially students, would be more knowledgeable on the very important and peaceful event which led to the state’s freedom.
