KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg approved an allocation of RM1.8 million as fund to rebuild the whole village of Kampung Melayu Tubau, in Murum.
Abang Johari approved fund to fulfil the villagers’ wishes after the (PRS-Murum) Assemblyman Kennedy Ckukpai Ugon and Kampung Melayu Tubau Village Security and Develoment Committee (JKKK) sent a request during a courtesy visit to the Chief Minister’s Office, at the DUN Complex in Petra Jaya, here yesterday.
According to Ckukpai, RM500,000 will be used for the village expansion project whereas RM500,000 is for the construction of a steel bridge at Sungai Penyuan, Long Urun, plus the construction of a community hall costing of RM800,000.
Currently there are more than 20 houses with only 3 families residing in the area. Ckukpai said, however, more than 200 families consisting of 500 villagers had moved to Bintulu to seek better opportunities.
“Many of these villagers want to come back to their village. That is why they are seeking fund so that their village could be expanded,” he told reporters.
He then said he had been helping the villagers in the area, which was an instruction by the former Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem during the last State Election that is to look and take care of the people there.
“We are very happy and want to thank the CM for his approval,” he said, adding that the village had been in existence there since 1910.
