KUCHING: The newly launched musical fountain built at a cost of RM31 million continues to attract and impress both locals and visitors from outside the state.

Rohan  Gurong, 22, a Nepalese student from Unimas described the musical fountain as quite unique and different.

“It is quite nice. I really enjoy it when I come here at night, especially the video part of it. I don’t know how it is made but it is quite nice and unique.

“So it is very different. I have seen something like this in India but the one in India is only a water show without the video. The new thing I see here is the video. That’s the new thing for me. It is quite impressive,” Rohan said when met at the Kuching Waterfront here, yesterday.

Erica Chong Sui Teng, 20, from Selangor, also a Unimas student when met at the Kuching Waterfront with a few fellow students yesterday said she only heard about the musical fountain but had not seen the ‘live show’ yet.

“Don’t have the time to come here to see. We have only seen it from a video posted in social media. So I thought it looks cool and pretty,” Erica said.

Gregory Jun Adar, 21, also a Unimas student said he came to know about the musical fountain from the social media.

“I think it is really great, super great,” Gregory said. Abdul Rahman, 58, a security staff at Kuching Waterfront  said the musical fountain show is played twice at night.

“The first show lasting 15 minutes starts at 8.30pm while the second show also lasting 15 minutes starts at 10pm. The show is all about Sarawak’s cultures and the songs played are popular ones like ‘Puteri  Santubong’ in tune with the musical fountain. It is very colourful.

“At 8.30pm many tourists and even our own people come to watch the show. It is just like a movie screen. I can say it is very attractive. The idea is very good as it is just in front of the State Legislative Assembly Complex which makes the complex looks very unique.

CK Lee, 47, from Kuala Lumpur and works in Sri Aman on the Pan Borneo Highway project said the musical fountain is a good tourist attraction.

“I think this fountain is for the tourists.  It is a good local attraction for tourists when they come to visit Sarawak or Kuching as the state capital. I think it is good for the State Government to have this attraction for the public and tourists. The musical fountain is an additional attraction for them to see.
Ahmad Roslan, 27, also from Kuala Lumpur and works in Sri Aman as a planner with the Pan Borneo Highway project said the Kuching Waterfront is a good place for the younger generation to interact.

“This is my first visit to the Kuching Waterfront. My first impression of this place is that it is very nice because there is the State Legislative Assembly Complex and also the very beautiful Sarawak River. There are so many amenities here and one can easily find hotels, entertainment outlets and can also enjoy the very beautiful scenery here,” he said.

Mohd Khalid,32, a student of Universiti Malaya said the musical fountain is the first one he had ever seen.  I am impressed with its beauty.

“I went to see it twice – last Friday evening and Saturday evening.  I am quite impressed. Night life at the Kuching Waterfront is also quite good. Kuching is quite an interesting place. The foods here are also very nice and tasty,” he said.

John Ramani  a local in his  50s said the musical fountain  is a good tourist attraction. “When tourists come here they will say: “Wow Kuching has this.” For tourists, it is okay. It is also a good place to take photographs,” Ramani said, adding that he still hasn’t the time to go and see the fountain show yet.

He added that he had not gone out to see the musical fountain. A manger of a handphone shop, Alex Hii, 32, said, “From my shop here at night I can see the musical fountain when the show is on. It is really beautiful.

I have seen the show twice. It is good to have the musical fountain. It is good that the government comes up with the musical fountain. Kuching as the state capital needs to have this kind of thing. “It is not a waste of money. Kuching as the state capital must have this kind of attraction. Tourists will not want to come and visit Kuching if there is no attraction,” he said.
