KUCHING: Batang Sadong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri in this New Year wishes for a more tolerant, peaceful and united Malaysia.

“Deep in my heart, I just wish that Malaysians will be what they have always claimed and wanted to be – hospitable, courteous, friendly, and respectful towards each other,” she said.

She said it had always been the Sarawakian tradition to live in harmony, despite multiple ethnics and cultures, where race and religion raised distinction without division.

“The common mixed-marriages one gets to see in Sarawak epitomises this coming

together, and is a further testament that race is never an issue,” she said.

She stressed with respect and a prejudice-free heart, it is easy to tolerate others.

“And it is also my deepest

hope that all Malaysians can emulate these virtues in their everyday lives,” she pointed out.

She added the Sarawak government has formed Unit For Other Religions (Unifor) that takes care of other religions apart from Islam, which resembles how much Sarawakians care for each other as human beings and individuals.

“Politicians, please, do not try to be heroes and heroines by using race and religion to champion your political agenda,” she advised.

“Let us move on for a better year. Our people need

food on their tables, live in a healthier environment and prepare the country as a developed nation.”
