KOTA SAMARAHAN: The overall defence concept must be reinforced and implemented more effectively, said Deputy Minister of Defence Senator Liew Chin Tong.
He said the concept would be able to foster the people’s awareness of the role and responsibilities of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and to reassure citizens that national defence is a shared responsibility.
“ATM should be closer to the people so that the people can understand the ATM’s tasks and responsibilities to enable the people to love them (ATM),” he said.
He said this in his address at his working visit to the Muara Tuang Army Camp here yesterday.
He added that it is important to raise the morale and spirit of ATM because they need to have high morale and spirit among the members.
“There are needs for the land, air and sea forces’ combined energy and ideas to operate as a more powerful ATM.
“We want to correct the situation.
“We want to place ATM as a respected organisation with 130,000 people in ATM and Mindef not only as a member of the country’s defence but also as a trigger for new ideas,” he explained.
