KUCHING: An app using an innovative information technology tool  beneficial  to the environment called “OOber Recycle App”  was officially launched by  Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian  during the “MBKS Environmental Awareness Week” here yesterday. The app was developed by Triple –C Recycle Sdn Bhd

OOber Recycle App  can be  downloaded from Google Play and Apps Store and is currently available in Sarawak only.

“This app is created to make life easier for  environmentally conscious residents of Kuching who always take time to send  recyclable items to recycling centres.

“The residents can request for the collection of the items   anytime and  anywhere with just the tap of their fingers  on the hand phones and the designated collectors will be at their door steps,” Kuching South City Council (MKBKS) mayor Datuk James Chan Khay Syn said his speech at the launch of the “MBKS Environmental Awareness Week” by  Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian at the MKBS Auditorium here yesterday.

Chan also said that global warning was a huge challenge which  nations of the world had to grapple with together.

“As citizens of Planet Earth, each  and everyone of us have the responsibility  to make  the right choices in our daily lives.

“Let the solution begin with us. Don’t waste energy. Don’t  pollute  our environment.  Though you don’t see what you dump, it will come and haunt you one of these days. If not you, it will taunt your children and future generations. So, look after one another,” he advised.

Chan also pointed out that Kuching South  was well known internationally as a tourist and healthy city.

“This is the result of the Kuching South Green Plan which aims at making Kuching South a city with a high standard of public health and quality environment  conducive to gracious living.

“However, the challenge ahead of us is to sustain and improve upon  the clean and healthy environment that we enjoy today,” he said. The mayor also urged Kuchingites, especially the younger ones,  to embrace the 3 ‘R’ lifestyle.
