KUCHING: The Lo San Temple would become an additional tourist attraction in the Batu Kawa area near here once its construction is completed, Minister of Local Government, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said this to reporters after officiating at the ground-breaking ceremony of the temple at Jalan Steven Yong which is linked to Jalan Bau, yesterday.

“There is also a plan to build a lagoon and river themed park in the Batu Kawa area. I am happy that the temple is relocated to this area as it would contributed to the eventuality that Batu Kawa will become a tourist destination.

“Once this temple is ready, it is not going to be just a temple. It will become one of the tourist attractions in Batu Kawa area as the 6 acres of land where it is situated can be built with many other things apart from the temple itselft,” said Dr Sim.

He added that it would become an additional place to visit when tourists come to Batu Kawa.

Dr Sim also noted that their vision to turn Batu Kawa into a tourist destination would also bring more income to the people there and the state as a whole.

“I think in the next five years, most of this thing will be realised, as it takes time to implement and with it new job opportunities will be created for the people in Batu Kawa, too,” he said.

The Lo Sam Temple is relocated to a 6-acre piece of land at Jalan Stephen Yong after more than 20 year at Jalan Foochow. The construction of the temple started last year and is expected to be ready by 2019 with an estimate cost of RM6 million.

Also present at the event were Batu Kitang Assemblyman, Lo Khere Chiang, member of Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), Datuk Wee Hong Seng and other distinguished guests.
