Next year’s fest hopes to draw 2,000 big bikers

KUCHING: The 19th Borneo Island International Big Bikers Festival will be held from 6 to 8 April next year.

According to Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Haji Openg, the festival next year is expected to draw at least 2,000 big bikers throughout Malaysia and Borneo Island, including Kalimantan, Indonesia and Brunei.

“By staging this event, it will educate the youngsters on road safety. Besides, it also contributes to the local tourism industry and doing charity work through recreational activities,” said Abang Johari during a meeting with committee members of the Borneo Island Big Bikers (BIBB) in a restaurant here, yesterday.

The event is being organised by BIBB which has more than 100 members from Borneo Island including Indonesia and Brunei.

This year the event is held at Sampit, Indonesia and next year Kuching will become the host.

Among activities to be held during the festival are motorshow, booth sales, sports and recreational, cultural performances, evening ride, dinner and others.

Also present during the meeting was Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
