‘Ngiling Tikai’ do attracts over 1,000

LUNDU: More than 1,000 people of all walks of life and communities gathered at the Lundu Town Square here last Sunday afternoon to celebrate this year’s Lundu District ‘Ngiling Tikai’.

The ceremony was held as a symbol to close the Gawai Dayak celebration this year. The colourful ceremony was officiated at by Tanjong Datu Assemblywoman, Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Hajah Jamilah Haji Anu.

In her speech, Hajah Jamilah wished the Dayak community in Lundu a ‘Happy Gawai Dayak’ and also thanked those who organised the event.

She also thanked Santubong MP, Dato Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar for his contribution to the event.

She urged the multi-racial community in Lundu to remain united and cooperate with one another in order to maintain harmony.

Jamilah also recorded her appreciation, especially to the Dayak community for their support during the Tanjong Datu by-election and pledging to pursue Tok Nan’s development agenda in the area.

Touching on Lundu’s development as a eco-tourism destination, she said she would enhance cooperation with the District Office, government departments and agencies and various communities in the Lundu District to realise the goal.

During the celebration, Jamilah also rolled up a rattan mat to symbolise the closing of this year’s Gawai Dayak celebration.

She also distributed ‘duit Gawai’ to children 12 years and below who were at the event.

Also present at the ceremony were Lundu District Officer, Awang Putrayusrie Awang Reduan, heads of departments and local community leaders.
