KUCHING: A non-government-organisation (NGO) is offering free prosthetic legs to 20 disabled individuals (OKUs) in the state.

The Kuching-Samarahan Division Che Hui Khor Moral Uplifting Society (CHKMUS) in a press statement issued yesterday said it is inviting those interested to apply for the assistance by contacting Irene Yong at 019-8162822 before Jan 10, 2019.

The society said those selected will be flown to Penang to have the artificial legs fitted during the free prosthesis event organised by the island’s Che Hoon Khor Moral Uplifting Society from May 12 to 18 next year.

CHKMUS will pay the recipients’ expenses including the return airfare, accommodation and transport charges.

Every recipient has to be accompanied by a relative who needs to bear their own return airfare.

The offer is open to all the needy irrespective of their race or religion.

CHKMUS president Chai Meng Koo said that only 20 disabled individuals would receive free prosthetic legs as the society is facing financial restraints. He appeals to the authorities, other NGOs and the general public to donate money so that more needy can be sent over to Penang to have prosthetic legs fitted.
