SIBU: The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) is to start its “Say NO to Plastic Bags 2.0” campaign on Oct 1 to promote green living and help protect Sibu’s natural environment.

This means there will be no use of plastic bags on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays, said SMC Chairman,  Datuk Tiong Thai King when chairing the SMC full council meeting yesterday.

All retailers will replace the normal plastic bags with bio-degradable plastic bags or paper boxes and the public is advised to bring their own shopping bags on these days, he said.

Meanwhile, Tiong also reminded the public that there would be no reduction or write-off of outstanding assessment fees and surcharges for assessment bill payment for the second half of 2017, as directed by the Ministry of Local Government and Housing.

The deadline for assessment bill payment is Oct 31. The payment can be made at the SMC counter at the Urban Transformation Centre.
