KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will be going green at the Kuching Festival Food Fair 2018 by banning the use of polystyrene containers for food and beverages as they pose harmful effects on both the environment and health.

Organising Chairman of Kuching Festival Food Fair 2018 Goh Tze Hui, said that MBKS was taking the initiative to move towards an environmental friendly festival.

“We will ensure that these stalls will only use paper box and plastic containers for takeaways,” he explained in a press conference at MBKS building here yesterday.

He added that to ensure hygiene was maintained during the food fair, the council has prepared proper rubbish bins for visitors to dispose of after their meal.

“We want to educate Kuching citizens to throw away their own trash before leaving the table, and we hope they will cooperate with the council,” he stressed.

He added that visitors who throw away their own rubbish would provide ease to visitors who would sit at the table next and need not wait for MBKS cleaners to dispose the trash.

The council also advised the public to park their vehicles responsibly so as to avoid blocking other vehicles and traffic congestion.

The annual Kuching Festival will be held from July 27 until August 19, 2018.
