KUCHING: The state government will be prioritising to acquire a direct flight from Kuching to China amongst other countries in the region.

However, there has yet to be any development on any direct flights as airline companies have yet to submit proposals to the state government.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Lee Kim Shin said that airline companies would have to consider the commercial factors before establishing a route.

“As of now, we have not seen any proposal yet. Discussions have been made with all the different airlines including Air Asia, Malindo Air and Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB).

“Most of them are currently studying the market. When a proposal comes in, the state government will be ready to provide them (airline companies) with the full support,” Lee said in an interview during a rehearsal for the Sarawak Day celebration at the Kuching Waterfront Square last Thursday.
