KUCHING: DAP Serian branch chairman, Edward Andrew Luwak is urging contractors to stop work temporary near St Teresa’s Church here on Sunday mornings. He said this would allow worshippers at the church a peaceful and uninterrupted Sunday service.

St Teresa’s church conducts two Sunday mass services from 8am till noon for the Catholic community in this town. These two weekly services are attended by hundreds of church goers. Just outside the church, the construction of a fly-over, as part of the Pan-Borneo Highway project, is underway.

Edward said works on the project is anticipated to last many more months. “For the past weeks, Sunday church services were distracted by loud noises from heavy equipment at work, just metres away from the church.

Voices during service were drowned by the loud noises from the construction site. “The situation is getting worse with manual piling work being carried out.

I am one of the worshippers at the church and I know how distractive the noise could be. “Hence, I urge the contractor to reschedule the work plan and to cease work outside the church on Sunday mornings.

A good work time management will not deprive the progress of project or delay in the implementation of the project,” he said.
