KUCHING: Sarawak is unique when it comes to religious harmony. It is the only state in Malaysia that has a unit which looks after the religious affairs of non-Muslims while also promoting peace, understanding and unity in the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the Unit For Other Religions (Unifor) served as a forum to discuss issues and on how to move forward, both in terms of developing each religion and how these religions could contribute to peace, unity and prosperity.

He said the brainchild of the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem, Unifor was established on April 27, 2017 and placed under the Chief Minister’s Department.

“Sarawak has become a role model for peace and unity. We sit down and talk together although we are of different religions,” Uggah said at the blessing ceremony of Unifor’s new office at Wisma Satok, here yesterday.
