Number of flood victims reduced

KUCHING: The number of flood victims in Sarawak has declined to 2,382 from 662 families as of 4pm yesterday. According to a statement from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, the number was in comparison to 2,640 evacuees from 727 families as of noon.

“All the victims are housed at eight relief centres with 1,629 people in Samarahan, five in Serian (564 people) and three in Mukah (189 people),” it said. The statement added four relief centres, namely three in Kuching and one in Bintulu had been closed.

The four rel ief cent res i n Kuching are Ar Rahman Surau in Kampung Sungai Batu, Darul Mut taqin Mosque, Kampung Buntal and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tabuan as well as the Bintulu Civic Centre. The statement also reported that the weather is in alert condition (Yellow Level).
