MIRI: A manager and two women were among nine people arrested by Miri police during an online gambling raid on a house at Jalan Temenggong Datuk Oyong Lawai, Marina Square Phase 2 here. When confirming the arrest, Miri police chief, SAC Lim Meng Seah said of the two women, one is a Thai national while the other, a local.

“Upon inspection of the premises, we believe it has been running as an online gambling processing centre,” he said. Those arrested are aged from 22 to 39 years. During the raid, police also seized items believed to have been used for the online gambling activities: 18 computers sets and others electronic devices.

“They all have been working there for less than six months, with working hours from 11.30 pm to 7am,” said Lim.

All the suspects are currently being detained at Miri Central police station for questioning. However, no money was seized during the raid as all transactions at the premises were cashless.

The case is being investigated under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
