MIRI: A total of 39 illegal immigrants were picked up in two separate locations during Miri General Operation Force (GOF) Battalion 12 ‘Ops Libas’ on Thursday afternoon.

The operation kicked off at 3pm.

“Those two areas were construction sites in Permyjaya and Senadin New Town, Kuala Baram phase 5 and 6,” said Miri’s 12th Battalion of GOF Commanding Officer Supt Tan Hiap Seng yesterday.

He said 38 of the illegal immigrants arrested were Indonesians, while the country of origin for the remaining one was yet to be determined.

The operation involved 43 GOF officers and 12 officials from the Miri Immigration Department.

All arrested illegal immigrants have been handed over to Miri Immigration Department for further action.

Sixteen of them were detained under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 while 15 were under Section 15(1)(c) 1959/63 with eight detained under Section 11(7)(a) of the Immigration Regulations.
