KUCHING: Over 1,400 officers from various departments and agencies participated in Symposium of Records and Archives Management for Sarawak State Government Agencies and Workshop on Government Records Classification at UCSI Hotel.

The two-day event was declared open by the State Secretary, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohammad Morshidi Abdul Ghani yesterday and it was organised by the Sarawak State Library.

“Up to date, a total of 191 government departments and agencies join this workshop, and I believe most of the participants have implemented the terms and regulations which classify for their record management of their own departments and agencies,

“I have been informed that a total of 15,727 files have been classified involving 54 departments and agencies throughout the state. About 221,548 records have been transferred from year 2000 until July, 2018 to Sarawak State Library,” said Morshidi.

He hoped this symposium and workshop would help improve the efficiency of record management performance and promote the acceptance and accountability of departments and agencies.

“This record management transformation also will upgrade the state in line with the international level of record management practices. The State Library and all departments and agencies have to plan the transformation from conventional record practice to electronic record practice as to ensure the transparency, efficiency, and accountability of the state government.

“I hope the participants could use this opportunity to improve their record management practice for the state and preserve the Sarawak’s Corporate Memory,” he added.

Among the activities held during the symposium and workshop were Digitalisation and Microfilming, Hands-on for Processing of Records and Archives, and Workshop on Government Documents Classifiction.

Also present were the State Library Chief Executive Officer Rashidah Haji Bolhassan and State Library Board Management Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr. Haji Hamid Bugo.
