KUCHING: More than 200 Armed Forces personnel and officers bled for a good cause – to replenish the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Blood Bank – at Penrissen Camp here, yesterday.

East Field Commander, Lieutenant-General Datuk Mohd Zaki Mokhtar said the blood donation drive was a continuation of the third anniversary of the Eastern Administration celebration which was held last Friday (31 March).

“I was informed that we already have 30 donors and 200 more are lining up to register as donors.

“We are targeting about 150 donors and if we look at the current situation here, we will achieve that target,” he said while attending the blood donation and health screening programme here, yesterday.

Zaki added that the Armed Forces are playing their part in contributing to the community by assisting SGH, in the form of donating blood, as the hospital needed at least 150 pints of blood daily.

“We also hope that we can continue to hold similar events from time to time to help replenish the blood stock,” said Zaki.

Also present were 1st Infantry Division Commander Major-General Datuk Stephen Mundaw and Serian Hospital Tranfusion Unit Medical Officer, Dr Abdul Hadi Che Zainol.
