KUCHING: About more than 200 participants from all over the world partook in the Second International Conference on Language Studies (ICLS) 2017, held at Riverside Majestic Hotel.
Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg declared open the two-day conference yesterday.
It was organised by the Faculty of Language and Communication of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas).
Themed “Sustaining Languages and Cultures: Borneo and Beyond”, Johari said the conference will provide a platform for local and international practitioners and researchers to discuss various issues related to the research and preservation of languages and cultures in Borneo and neighbouring regions.
“Some of these issues will cover areas such as ‘Language Documentation and Conservation’, ‘Local Knowledge, Literature, and Culture’, and ‘Language policy and Practice’, and many others.
