Over 500 partake in 29th SEA Games Torch Run

BATANG SADONG: More than 500 civilians, including Simunjan residents partook in ‘Torch Run of 29th SEA Games and 9th Para ASEAN Games Kuala Lumpur 2017’ here ast Monday.

The run started from Sadong Jaya, was led by Minister of Youth and Sports Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar joined by Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Sadong Jaya Assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo.

Arrival of the torch in Simunjan town was greeted by Simunjan Assemblyman Awla Dris, before being handed over to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department who is also Member of Parliament for Batang Sadong Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

The interesting part was that the Torch Run was also participated by the country’s boxing legend who is also originating from Simunjan, Sapok Biki and several other former athletes.

“It is a surprise for us in Simunjan that the Torch Run is passing through Simunjan. It was an unforgettable history for the people in Simunjan,” said Nancy when met by the reporters.

Meanwhile, Khairy Jamaluddin also expressed his pleasure on the support given by Simunjan residents in the Torch Run.

The Torch Run ended yesterday at Baitulmakmur (MASJA) compound in Petra Jaya.

Also present at the event was First Malaysian Infantry Division Commander Major General Datuk Stephen Mundaw.
