KUCHING: About 500 participants took part in the ‘Larian Obor KL2017 @ Sarawak’ which was held at the GoDown Amphitheatre at Waterfront here yesterday.

The event was held in conjunction with the 29th SEA Games whereby Malaysia will be hosting it this year.

According to Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth, and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, this would be the last run in the state.

“This is the last one after going through Lawas, Gunung Mulu, Sibu, Samarahan, and today Kuching.

“Tomorrow it will be passed to the Perlis state government to be brought to Kuala Lumpur before the SEA Games,” he said.

He said that the torch has passed through various iconic spots and monuments in its journey, making it a truly remarkable one.

“It is to spread awareness for the SEA Games and to get our people excited for it.

“This can also strengthen ties and unity of the people,” he said.
